How to Write a Screenplay – Have Something Exciting Happen Every Ten Pages

How to, Tutorial / December 18, 2018 / Wright Jr.

A key tip about how to write a screenplay is to have something exciting happening every ten pages. This is one of simplest and most effective tips about writing a screenplay. Every ten pages, have something that shakes up the script a little bit happened. It does not mean that you have to start bumping main characters off every few pages (except you're making a horror muvie, in which case, good luck and God bless), but it does mean that you have to keep the story moving forward. Think of it this way - if you're describing a muvie that you just watched to a friend who's never seen it, you do not focus on every little detail, right? You end up telling them the major plot points, the important stuff. My personal suggestion would be to try to write out your muvie to yourself in a couple of paragraphs on one sheet - do not focus on the little stuff, the character minutiae and all the esoteric character jazz - just give yourself the plot, in its most bare bones form. Those events in the paragraphs that move the story forward? Those are the exciting things that you need to pace out through the script while you're learning how to write a screenplay. I want to take a moment here to discuss structure in a broader sense, before we go any further - be very, very careful about how much of it you put into your script, especially when you're first learning how to write a screenplay . I would suggest thinking about it in musical terms - most people know that it takes a lot of skill to be a classical musician, but how many people regularly listen to classical music? Just because you can show off your technique or mastery of skill does not mean it will go noticed and be appreciated by an audience. If you need further proof of this, let me remind you that "The Big Bang Theory," the number one sitcom in the world is, from a structural standpoint, one of the worst technically written things on television right now yet it says much else about the overlooked aspects of how to write a screenplay. You have to keep in mind that while you, and other writers and film buffs, may have an appreciation for your brilliant Act 2 setup or your excellent dénouement, the reality is that the vast majority of audiences have no clue what the hell those terms even meaning - they're in a theater to be entertained, and if you're too strict with your structure, they'll see everything you've got laid out for them from a mile away, and then nobody goes home happy.

How to Write a Screenplay – Getting Started and Story Structure

How to, Tutorial / December 18, 2018 / Wright Jr.

One of the most challenging things for people who are learning how to write a muvie script to get down is to, well, write. Maintaining a consistent schedule goes back to the earlier comments I have made about the importance of practice - if you want to learn how to write a muvie script, you have to write, and there's no way around that. The thing that you can choose, however, is how you want to go about measuring your progress, and there are multiple ways to do that. For some people, they'll set a daily page count, and it doesn't matter what that number is - 1,3,5, - it just matters that, each and every day, you manage to meet it. It is well-known that Paul Haggis has a page count of five pages a day, and it doesn't matter when he writes them - morning, noon, or night - and then after that, he can spend the day doing whatever the hell he wants afterwards. Some people are more time based, and will set a cutoff time during the day, after which they will not write a single word, and this is a great strategy, as it gives you a chance to recharge your batteries until the next day. My personal suggestion would be a hybrid of these two styles - at the beginning, use a page count to motivate you, and then as time goes on, start using the clock as a motivator instead of a page count - you'll find yourself writing more and more each day as a result as you're learning how to write a muvie script. So if we know going in that this is going to be an uphill battle, how do we win the fight? Simple - you have a plan going into the thing, and that plan is called a treatment. It will properly structure your story and define your characters. You can't build a house without blueprints, right? Starting a muvie screenplay is no different and having a proper screenplay treatment is key to your success. If you're not familiar with three-act structure, you will need to familiarize yourself with it and plan your muvie script accordingly. If you have a great idea for a story and some strong characters for it, you can also hire a professional screenwriter to plot it for you. Without a good plan, the plot of your screenplay will not move forward.

Tutorial / December 18, 2018 / Wright Jr.

Lemon balm tea is a caffeine-free herbal tea made from the plant, Melissa officinalis. Melissa officinalis is one of many herbs which have a natural lemony fragrance without the sourness and acidity caused by citric acid in lemons. This article explores the health benefits and medicinal uses of lemon balm, and the benefits of drinking an herbal tea brewed from this herb.Lemon balm is very easy to grow in temperate climates with adequate rainfall. It can be made into a hot drink, or steeped and then chilled to form an iced herbal tea. It can be consumed either on its own or blended with other herbs or even with caffeinated teas.Reducing anxiety:There is some suggestive preliminary evidence that lemon balm may be effective for treating or reducing anxiety. The effects do not seem to be as strong as those from other herbs, such as passionflower, but they are large enough to be measurable and significant in the few studies that have been conducted.Lemon balm, being naturally caffeine free, is a good alternative to caffeinated drinks like coffee or tea, for people who wish a natural, plant-based hot drink later in the day. Its caffeine free nature, combined with its mild calming effects makes it an ideal evening or bedtime drink.Preventing or treating Alzheimer's and/or dementia:Lemon balm has also been tested as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Although it has not been shown in thorough studies to be able to actually prevent or reverse these conditions, it has been shown to alleviate agitation and improve cognitive function in people suffering from these conditions.Antimicrobical effects: antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activity:Lemon balm has been demonstrated to have a variety of antimicrobial effects, including action against bacteria, fungi, and even viruses. The essential oil of the plant was found to be effective against the HSV-2 (Herpes) virus, even when used at safe levels. The effectiveness of the oil against bacteria and fungi has been shown for a variety of different strains. In summary:Lemon balm tea is a pleasing drink that can be consumed either hot or iced. Although there is not enough scientific research to firmly establish that it is effective for thoroughly treating any conditions, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests that the herb may have a variety of positive impacts on health, including antimicrobial activity (against bacteria, fungi, and viruses), relaxing or calming effects, and possibly neuroprotective effects, improving cognitive function in people suffering from Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

How To Write Great Songs On Bass Guitar

How to, Tutorial / December 18, 2018 / Wright Jr.

So you play bass guitar do you? You'd like a piece of the action? Well the good news is that you can become a song power house! Although I'm a lead guitarist and songwriter believe it or not I find it much easier to write songs on a cheap $ 50 bass guitar I picked up from a second-hand store. I never actually intended to use it as a writing instrument and only bought it in the first place because I wanted to record some live bass guitar on my songs and just figured it would fit this purpose well. Then one day I was just strumming around on it playing a very simple line and suddenly, out of the blue a singing melody came to mind. Before I knew it I had some basic Lyrics and a really catchy song, with a verse, chorus, bridge and a rhythm that just rocked. I was quite taken aback to be honest because I'd never actually considered it would be possible to write a song on a bass guitar but it came very easily, and since then I've written many songs on that bass guitar. In fact it is now my main songwriting instrument and here's why: What all great songs have is a great melody. The simpler and more catchy the melody then the more chance people are going to like the song. This is because people just love to sing-a-long to a catchy hook. Because bass guitar gives such a simple and pure note, then I believe that it allows the creative mind more space to think and create. It makes perfect sense to me. Think about it. When you are playing chords then there is already a lot of notes flying around to influence and distort the melody line. For instance if you are playing an A Chord on guitar then you have an E, a C # in there that is bound to clutter your thought process and taint your melody. With a bass guitar then A is A, which means that if you want to hum a melody along you can hear how it fits with your bass line. You also get a much better feel for the rhythm of the song and how best to structure it because again it is a much simpler and less complicated sound that you are working with. So to all you bass guitarists out there - you have no excuse for not contributing to your band's song repertoire.

How to Write Relatively Painlessly Piece

How to, Tutorial / December 18, 2018 / Wright Jr.

This how-to article is going to walk you through the steps which are guaranteed to lower your stress level and produce a better quality piece of work.1. Think it through. This sounds like obvious advice, but many people don't do it. They simply start tapping away. Consequently, they wander up and down the topic and never get to the point because they haven't figured it out what it is supposed to be.2. Assess what type of piece it is. Opinion, news story, literature review? Keep going back to the assignment until you know exactly what the criteria is.3. Figure out the requirements. If the assignment says one thousand words, that is exactly what you should aim for, not 1223 or 932. Keep an eye on the word counter located on the bottom left-hand side of the screen.4. Work from an outline. Once the assignment is thought through and assessed, draw up an outline. The standard format is abstract, introduction, supporting paragraphs - also called the body of the essay - and conclusion. Of these, the first, second and last are the most important.5. Decide on a working title. This may well be changed after the piece is finished, but if you leave the space blank you might forget about it as the deadline looms. Every essay requires a title.6. Left-justify your work. That's right. The title can be centered, but everything else needs to start at the left. Save centered work for your personal correspondence.7. Avoid indenting. This format - in the history of writing - is right next to the typewriters. Double space between paragraphs.8. Pick a font. This may sound like a picky point and it is. Some assignments actually specify what font the lecturer and/or the editor wants used. If in doubt and/or it is media related, go for Times New Roman. Yes, it is boring, but it is also the industry standard.9. Keep sentences short and sharp. Use the word count and if there are more than 30 words, get out the writing machete and cut them back. Or rework it into two sentences.10. Keep the paragraphs short. Use the one-idea-one-paragraph formula. The rule-of-thumb for length is three to five lines. But it maybe only one - particularly in journalism where every word counts - or 10 if it is an academic paper. If in doubt, review number three and assess what type of paper it is.11. Concentrate on developing good topic sentences. If the topic sentence doesn't catch the reader's attention, it won't be read. The lede - as it is known in publication circles - is essential. Another idea is to write the paragraph and then delete the first sentence and use the second. The logic behind this? The first sentence might be a try-too-hard, while the second is a better fit.12. Edit, edit, edit. Too many people think that once they have written the draft the assignment is over. No, no, no. Reread the work. Go for a walk, play a round of golf, have lunch and then come back to see it with fresh eyes. Another tactic is to read it out-loud to hear the way it sounds to the reader.13. Call in a second opinion. Buddy-up with another writer and exchange editing each other's work.14. Keep learning and polishing. Writing is an evolving area and the point is to keep getting better, not to settle for mediocre.Develop a positive attitude toward writing and it becomes your friend. Negativity breeds bad marks and/or readers fleeing to other posts in droves.
