Difference Between a Check and a Check Stub

Tutorial, What is? / December 15, 2018 / Wright Jr.

The difference between a check and a check stub can sometimes become confusing, especially if you're just starting out in the world of banking or being employed for the first time. Most often, employers that write or print checks will submit both a check and a check stub to the employee to explain how the final pay was calculated. However, there are instances where a payment is made by check and no stub is attached, which is often the case for contractors or independent workers. Vice-versa, those that are paid through direct payments may only receive the check stub as proof of payment.

What Is Metro Fiber?

Tutorial, What is? / December 13, 2018 / Wright Jr.

Metro fiber is an optic fiber which connects several enterprises in a metropolitan area providing high speed broadband connection. High speed data is transmitted as light impulses. These fibers are often leased out by providers to other companies. Metro fiber is a relatively newer technology which is used to connect buildings in a large metropolitan area over the internet, like connecting multiple computers in a single building. In a metropolitan area, metro fiber is used to link central offices. An optic fiber network, this fiber is used for high speed data transmission through fiber optic lines in the form of light pulses. To simplify the functioning of a metro fiber network, consider a hypothetical situation, where all business enterprises and even individual consumers are making use of a single network. These networks would then join with even larger networks and the metropolitan area would be connected by a single large network. Metro fiber is used for high speed broadband connection across several enterprises in a metropolitan area. The buildings that it connects are known as 'lit' or 'on-net' buildings. With speeds up to 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps, it enables faster access to internet and data transfer for clients, a major way forward from the traditional bandwidth. This fiber enables one to meet high data needs of multi-site business enterprises. A highly favorable alternative to traditional internet connections, these fibers are particularly beneficial for data and multimedia transfers. Business enterprises stand to gain the maximum from this technology by using it for increasing their productivity and thus get higher revenues. The providers of metro fiber networks often lease out unused fibers to other companies. These unused fibers are called dark fibers. These fibers are leased out to enterprises for establishing optical connections in their region. For example, large business homes leasing out their connections, phone companies connecting central offices, etc. If a local cable company leases out network connections to a television company, then the television company can directly transmit signals to the cable company, so relaying crystal clear signals. Networks using this fiber can transmit signals over a range of approximately 200 kilometers, although most connections are confined in much shorter area like a metropolitan area. Most connections are made within a span of 100 kilometers and do not require the use of an optical amplifier, except when the coupling loss is very high. The optical amplifiers do not permit operation of light wavelength outside the available band of the optical amplifier. The metro fiber technology has become a revolution of sorts. It is connecting people, increasing the productivity of business enterprises and binding several institutions in one network. With speeds of 155 Mbit / s up to 10 Gbit / s, a complete channel can be leaked out through this fiber network with data being transmitted at whatever speed you want.

What Is Corporate Access?

Tutorial, What is? / December 13, 2018 / Wright Jr.

If you were a celebrity's handler, then you would be primarily concerned with access. Who gets to talk to your charge when, where and for how long. Access control is an issue in business too, and when it comes to the investing field the question of corporate access is one that has to be answered. Corporate access is similar to the above example, but it consists of meetings between the managers of a corporation that's traded publicly with those who are institutional investors. Essentially it's the people running the company who are meeting with the people which are considering putting a lot of money into the company. Now, there are several issues when discussing this form of access. For instance, some people estimate that this access accounts for as much as 20% of the bonuses paid to the middlemen, those who put investors in touch with companies to invest in. This issue has created accusations of unfairness, since bigger companies with bigger accounts and better connections can earn more money because they can introduce clients to corporations, while smaller, independent firms lack this same access. But that argument is only one of many that can affect how trading operations work when it comes to getting access.Once access has been granted though, it makes for a powerful addition to the other research that might be conducted by private companies on behalf of investors. After all, you can get all the facts about a company, but nothing quite brings it home like being able to evaluate the management personally, talking to them and getting a sense of the men and women that are really running a company. In fact, the impression made by the management can be a major, deciding factor in whether or not that particular company is the one that gets money given to them at all. However, it is important to remember that access is only one aspect to the process of making a decision for trading operations. While it is good to be able to talk with the people who are running a company you're considering investing in, it's not substitute for solid numbers and good prospects in future gains. However, if a company has both of these things going for it, then the chances of it getting more investors is even better. Access to the corporate heads though is something that every company needs to decide for on its own.

Think about all of the commercial printing materials you come across in a single day. The direct mailers, the billboards, company brochures, business cards and so forth, all of the paper sizes, paper thickness, the colors and the creative marketing materials. Now, think about how these items become reality? How they evolve from a idea, to an design to a final printout. Commercial printing is the process of taking art work and transferring that work onto a piece of paper or card stock. Many companies use a form of offset printing to transfer four sets of color, being cyan, magenta, yellow and black or otherwise known as CMYK. The process is somewhat simple and has not really changes in over a 100 years. An aluminum plate is created from the art work, each representing one color out of the CMYK process. The plate is wrapped around a plate cylinder that allows ink to fill up the cut out shape of the aluminum plate. Ink is beloved into the cutout and it is transferred to a rubber roller called the blank cylinder. The blank cylinder is what is used to allow the paper to roll within to retrieve the right level of ink. Finally, the impression cylinder is the roller that pushes paper along at 10,000 sheets per hour to absorb the right level of ink. There are four presses, each for the individual colors. The paper moves along each press, retrieving one color at a time and finally ends up in an area of infrared heat to dry the paper for printing on the back side. Commercial printing includes the right level of water and ink. The aluminum plate allows the paper to absorb the right level of ink and the rollers presses the image onto the paper, one at a time.
