A movie based on the life and struggles of Larson who pushed so hard to be recognized before his 30th birthday but unfortunately death took him away before he could get the recognition he deserved. ‘Tick, tick…boom’ depicts the life Larson had to go through including the pain he went through due to constant rejection despite having the passion and zeal to do the work. A movie you wouldn’t want to miss especially if you’re a fan of musicals.
Story
Jonathan Larson (Andrew Garfield), an aspiring composer who waits tables at a diner with hopes that he would be the next great American musical. Just before he displays his performance in a make it or break it performance, he feels pressured both from his girlfriend Susan, his friend Michael (Robin de Jesus) and also from the Aids infected community.. with him thinking he has made a bad choice in career and a ticking clock, what is he to do with the little time remaining.

A musical movie based on the musical play by Jonathan Larson, an aspiring composer who unfortunately wasn’t able to see his movie bloom due to his unexpected departure from the face of the Earth.
‘Tick, tick…boom!’ is a movie which was directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda who did an amazing job in bringing together great casts with beautiful acts to portray the amazing story of Jonathan Larson.
Real life issues were addressed in this movie with cases like HIV and the idea that following one’s dream depends on working a white collar job and it also shows the pain and agony in facing constant rejection despite one’s passion and will to perform.
A film so simple and emotional, impressive and sentimental but yet not so compelling. Acts with so much originality and honesty not leaving out the inspirations gotten from the play as Larson struggles so much to be recognized before his 30th birthday.
Though full of styles but lacking in substance with an average plot.
Great themes, great story, amazing cinematography, well paced , well balanced sound design but cliché musicals, slow beginning and rough climax as the climax could have been better than using a voice over to wrap up.
Great casts with Andrew Garfield as Larson with him trying to emulate his quirky personality and doing a good job at it. Robin de Jesus as Michael was lovely as well as other amazing characters
In all, ‘Tick, tick…boom!’ is an impressive movie with an emotional and inspiring story filled with real life experience that can be related to. An amazing movie.
